How do I trigger a message when the security deposit is set up?

I asked support about this and they said I should set the trigger for when the rental agreement is signed since that's when most people would enter their security deposit. But the problem I imagine is that a user will go through the flow to sign the rental agreement, then when it comes to the security deposit, they decide not to do it right then and there because maybe they realize they don't have the right card. But since they already signed the rental agreement, they will instantly get a notification from airbnb for the message I want to send them containing the door code. So they'll receive the door code even though they haven't paid the deposit. Does anyone know a way around this? The only thing I can think of is to tell guests there are two steps that must be done in order. I will give them a link to the security deposit and a link for the rental agreement and I'll say that the steps must be completed in order. So as long as I trust them to complete the steps in order, then whenever they sign the rental agreement they would have also already completed the deposit, and thus the trigger will send them a message containing the door code.

I have the same issue and actually just reached out to OR support by email a few days ago to reiterate my request for a better possible workflow here.

I've thought about writing it up as a Feature Request in the feature requests forum. If you get around to it before I do, I'll definitely upvote your request.

Please make the write up I will upvote and give my support. I don't get it. This seems like an incredibly obvious loop hole here. Signing the rental agreement is an "event" that a trigger can respond to. So too is the security deposit. I don't understand what the problem is. The entire purpose of me moving from Hospitable last week is because I want to automate security deposits. To be fair, ownerrez does have a decent system for security deposit automation, which none of the other PMS do, but I didn't expect to have to do this two step dance. And while I'm on the topic I might as well list out my other complaints that Hospital does perfectly fine.

1. Messaging on a certain day of the week for trash reminders

2. Messaging on VRBO. As in messaging anything at all. I can't believe ownerrez doesn't support this.

You can set up door code email trigger with condition "security deposit on file"

This won’t work for me. I get last minute bookings sometimes so I need a message sent in response to the security deposit being scheduled. Why is there not a way to do this?

Can you explain your use case in more detail?  You ought to be able to accomplish your intent, perhaps in a different way, such as by a trigger that fires when a booking is created, but, with the criteria that it applies only for bookings arriving in less than 1 day.

My use case is this. I want a message sent to the guest informing them of the door code but I only want it sent after they have completed the security deposit. I do not want it to be time based (like two days prior to checkin) because that means someone could book three months in advance, complete their deposit requirement, and maybe a week beforehand they send me a message asking what the checkin instructions are. I think it’s a waste of time dealing with questions like that so the checkin instructions should be sent to the guest immediately upon them completing the security deposit. I also don’t want time based because that doesn’t work for same day bookings. 

Ownerez could fix this issue by allowing there to be an event based trigger upon scheduling the security deposit. If it can be done for the rental  agreement I’m not sure why it can’t be done for the security deposit.

This is not currently an option, but it is part of the plans for the Messaging redesign that is coming up. Our developers are looking to expand the Trigger scheduling system to include a handful of additional options including Security Deposit completion.

Rather simple. You need to enable the trigger condition that "security deposit is on file". Also, I am puzzled why your sec dep is months in advance. It is usually reserved 2-3 days prior to arrival. In any case, you can set trigger conditions as follows.

BlueMtnCabins the feature does not exist. What you’re describing is a time based trigger. I do not want a time based trigger I want an event based trigger. 

I am not collecting the security deposit months in advance. I am collecting the security deposit 2 days in advance. However the guest can complete the security deposit information months in advance, and when they do I want them to receive the door code immediately. This feature currently does not exist with ownerrez.

That’s very good to hear Rex! Man that would make the process for my guests so much smoother than the current method I use. Is there an ETA for it?

bigDeeOT As Ken mentioned, the Messaging update does not currently have a specific ETA and will most likely release later this year. In the meantime, I think you could use a scheduled time trigger to achieve the functionality you need.

If you use the criteria BlueMtnCabins shows above, set it to go out many days before arrival, and set the retry criteria to keep trying until arrival, it will send out as soon as the security deposit is scheduled. I tested this for a same day booking and the template was sent out properly.

Ryan's workaround posted late last month is the workable solution right now. The timeline previously mentioned by other OR Team Members was delayed in lieu of other Messaging roadmap items. The first of which is Inquiry Triggers, which is pretty close to release. Please write to help@ownerrez.com if you need help setting up what you're trying to accomplish.
