Staff Accountant

Job Overview

OwnerRez is seeking an experienced back-office administrator, comfortable using modern computer technology, who would like to work from home, for a position as Staff Accountant. As a virtual company, all OwnerRez employees work from home, which can be anywhere with a reliable Internet connection and good working environment.

As OwnerRez’ Staff Accountant, you will be responsible for handling all accounting tasks for OwnerRez and affiliated companies. This will include standard accounting data entry; cost accounting and reporting; month and year-end reconciliation and closeout activities; tax and other filings; payroll and benefits analysis and associated paperwork. While OwnerRez is a small company, there is a wide variety of back-office functions that you will be responsible for, not just bookkeeping.

Since OwnerRez is a small, fast-growing tech company, there will be other duties and responsibilities as the company grows and accounting needs change.


Responsibilities and Duties

Accounting

  • Reconciliation (collecting receipts, saving statements, making sure correct accounts are used, etc)
  • Reporting: end of month, end of year
  • Mail reading, storage and fulfillment (bills, statements, daily, weekly)

 

HR-related accounting and paperwork

Payroll
  • Processing payroll itself
  • Setting up new employees
  • Setting up new states
    • Withholding tax
    • SUI tax
    • Workers comp
Benefits
  • Setting up new employees’ insurance and 401k plans
  • Assist with decision making on renewal plans for insurance and 401k and make sure accounts are renewed properly
  • Maintaining requirements/standards for current insurance and 401k plans
    • Ex: our 401k plan requires that we obtain an annual fidelity bond
    • Ex: UHC says we are required to send 1095-B to all employees

OwnerRez is committed to improving efficiency and quality of work life through applying our software development skills to internal purposes.  So, while routine data entry is an inherent and unavoidable part of accounting, this is not a data-entry clerk position, and automation will be applied and developed where necessary to support the needs of this position.

Qualifications

  • Detail oriented, must be accurate in following (and creating) processes
  • Willingness to take ownership of tasks without being supervised or managed constantly
  • Previous documented accounting experience
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are required
  • Applicants must be courteous, friendly and professional with both internal and external clients and employees.
  • A high-speed Internet connection and quiet, private place to work is required.
  • Some minor filing storage and work space will be needed, but since nearly everything is computerized, this will be minimal.
