Hi all,

My guest is saying that even though I released her security deposit on 7/23, it is still showing PENDING on her account. Can you please tell me why that is? Shouldn't it say it is released and done? Why would it still be PENDING? (Booking # 252549)

Hi Claudia,

Because banks do not always immediately honor the 'void' request that our system makes. Most banks will show still it pending for another 24-48 hours. There's nothing we can do about that. In some cases, banks disregard the 'void' request entirely and the pending charge will remain in place until it expires in 7 days. Banks have different rules depending on their internal development. Unfortunately, there is no universal standard.

I could understand the 24-48 hours. This is ONE week later. Why would that be? When will they release it? I released it on Monday, July 23 at 10 AM.

The guest would have to call their bank to find out. Eventually, they all expire on their own.

Remember, we also re-authorize the security deposit after 7 days on our end if you (the owner) haven't released it by then.

Looking at her history...

Jul 05, 12 - Scheduled a security deposit of $400.00 to be reserved on 7/9/2012.
Jul 18, 12 - Collected a payment of $168.41 from credit card MasterCard *****xxxx.
Jul 23, 12 - Reserved a security deposit of $400.00 with credit card MasterCard *****xxxx.
Jul 23, 12 - Released the full security deposit.

... security deposit was reserved on july 23 (before 10 AM), the same day I released it. So, if it was reserved again on July 23, before I released it, shouldn't the 7 days be today? Would it be gone by tomorrow morning?

Ah, yes. That was a re-authorization on the 23rd which would be 7 days. Evidently her bank didn't honor the 'void' request we made and immediately kill the pending transactions, so it should be gone by tomorrow.

By the way, that overview/activity text should be showing when the security deposit was ORIGINALLY reserved and not just the latest re-authorization. We know about that and have it fixed in the upcoming release.

I would assume the original was on 7/9, when it was scheduled. But maybe it should include all the other times it was put on hold again. For example, 7/16 Re-authorized, 7/23 Re-authorized.
